A Message from our Chairman, Fred Grimm The Board of Trustees has done a remarkable job this past year, and I am so proud of the way everyone has worked so closely together. Whenever an event, project, or get-together takes place, they are always there to lend a helping hand.  I know that they will keep up their great work and continue to treat each other as the family that we have become.  Most importantly I know that they will continue to help me in managing the donations received from all of our donors for their intended use in fulfilling the mission of the D.O.V.E. Fund.

Sgt. Michael Batt School Completed, Dedicated This school is a fitting tribute to honor the best of the best, our friend, neighbor, classmate, brother.  We believe that this memorial school places a positive ending to a life that was cut far too short.    Through the years we never forgot our MIA brother.  His family and friends, through this school and with the help of The D.O.V.E. fund and community leaders here gathered, honor him. This represents a final act of closure, after many long dark years of longing to know of Michael’s fate, and is indeed heart-warming and welcome .  Michael, friend, you are our hero and we love you and we thank you for your service.” Denny McBroom

A Look at our Financial Health For the year 2005 we received over $190,000 and have so far received $67,000 for 2006.  Our total money received from donations and fund raising from the inception of this organization in 2000 is now over $1,000,000.  The Board of the D.O.V.E. Fund continues to be amazed by the generosity of our supporters.  It was an ambitious target but we made it...and with continued support our organization will continue to do good things for those who need it most.

Shared Experiences Prior to this past April when I traveled to Vietnam with my father I had only a vague idea of the D.O.V.E. Fund and its projects.  My dad had mentioned several times that he considered returning to Vietnam with the D.O.V.E. Fund but each time he canceled or postponed his trip.  This year, however, he told me he was definitely going and when he asked me to accompany him I agreed to go without hesitation.  Even though I was aware that returning to Vietnam for the first time since the war would be a significant event for my father, for me it was initially a mere vacation and a chance to explore another culture.  However, the trip turned out to be much more than my father or I expected.

Annual Retreat Spurs Restructuring New committees are Scholarship, Maintenance, Clean Water Projects, Web Site Development, Donor Recognition, Micro-Financing, and Grant Writing.  We also approved a new Vice Chair for Vietnam Projects position to maintain coordination and continuity of all the projects in Vietnam.   The new structure will allow the DOVE Fund to continue to be a “volunteer” Board of 25 Trustees so that 99+% of all donations reach their intended target of helping the poor children and families of Vietnam.

Meet Phong...D.O.V.E.'s Extended Wing in Vietnam Following the recommendation by the Board of Trustees at the 2006 Annual Retreat, the D.O.V.E. Fund started the search to find the right Vietnamese person to act as our D.O.V.E. Fund coordinator in Vietnam.   Our Job Description was simple: we need a person to be our “eyes and ears” in Vietnam. We welcome aboard Phong from Dong Ha, Vietnam.   In the future we will ask Phong to write a story about his background and work with the D.O.V.E Fund in Vietnam.
