I served as a pilot with the 361st and 362nd Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadrons at Phu Cat Air Base in Binh Dinh province. I also flew missions out of the Da Nang Airbase with the 460th Tactical Reconnaissance Wing. I returned to Vietnam in 2009 and visited my old base at Phu Cat and found it is now a commercial airport serving the Binh Dinh coastal districts including the port city of Quy Nhon. It is strangely satisfying to see the huge runway built by the Air Force 40 years ago for a distinctly different purpose, still there servicing travelers in Vietnam. I was fortunate to have my son David join me as we traveled through Vietnam this year. He enjoyed hearing the stories and seeing some of my old Air Force hangouts in Phu Cat.

The D.O.V.E. Fund has been a great way to keep the connection with Vietnam. It is very satisfying to see so many families and children positively affected by our projects. I have learned that the D.O.V.E. Fund is the perfect place for veterans to learn about the emerging Vietnam.
