John E. Craven, II
D.O.V.E. Fund member since 2006

After his military service, John married Gail, his college sweetheart in 1971.  Three years later they were blessed with their only child, their daughter Adrienne.  She and her husband Sam currently live in Trenton, MI.  Working the night shift and attending classes during the day, John earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Eastern Michigan University. 

He devoted 29 years to the Environmental Engineering arena at Ford before leaving to join the supply side of the automotive industry for 7 years.  He is currently retired from active employment and donates his time and talents to the D.O.V.E. Fund, his church and the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI.

John is an active members of Southpoint Community Christian Church in Trenton.  He has served on their Building Oversight Committee and is currently involved with their Christian Businessmen’s Ministry as well as Southpoint’s Men’s Ministry. John is also active with the Development of Vietnam Endeavors, or D.O.V.E. Fund.  He is a member of the Board of Trustees, serves on the Executive Committee and is Chairman of the Donor Appreciation Committee.

In conjunction with the D.O.V.E. Fund, John and Gail are raising funds to build a school in Vietnam in memory of his three fallen comrades.  In addition they are raising scholarship assistance funds for the poorer students attending the school near where his unit served.

John authored a book entitled “A Legacy of Hope” – One Veteran’s Journey – Turning my Disadvantage into an Advantage for Others. John provides a copy of his book to those interested in turn for a donation of their choice toward his school project.
