Hue Boarding School

Major Technology  Donors: Geof and Sharon McKisson and Dodie and Ai Gaines

Delegates of the first annual D.O.V.E. trip met the school’s inspiring director and dedicated teachers and were entertained by the students’ music, song, and dance. We soon learned that eyes are not required to see the contents of an opened, loving heart – the happy faces of the blind children mirrored those of the delighted D.O.V.E. delegation. The school’s minimal educational tools offered the students little hope for the future beyond the monotonous labor involved in the production of basic home goods. It was obvious the bright, sweet-spirited children possessed potential worth cultivating. To provide these students with a future brightened by hope, D.O.V.E. and Vietnam Veteran Geof McKisson and his wife Sharon (Toledo, OH) gifted the school with a fully equipped computer lab and specialized software. Dodie Gaines, another Vietnam Veteran, and his wife Ai (Los Gatos, CA), generously underwrote the expense of a Braille printer which produces a wealth of educational materials for the students as well as blind adults throughout the region and neighboring provinces. Today, the blind children at this boarding school are enriched with useful knowledge. They are filled with hope for a future in which they are productive contributors to society in many different ways.
