Trieu Trung Elementary School

In 2008, the D.O.V.E. Fund partnered with Vietnam Veteran Lanny Saumer of River Falls, Wisconsin to help build an elementary school in Quang Tri province.  Saumer has rallied students at Meyer Middle School in River Falls to generate the funding for this project. Students have worked tirelessly for over 3 years to raise over $16,000 for the new Vietnam Sister School Project which will house over 150 students.

The school will be known as the Trieu Trung Elementary School and is located in the village of Xuan Duong a rural farming community on the outskirts of Quang Tri. The 8 room school with modern latrines will serve students in the first thru sixth grades.

Groundbreaking was completed in March of 2009 with an expected completion and dedication sometime in the spring of 2010. Total cost of the project is $50,000 which will be shared by DOVE Fund donors and the local government.

What a wonderful lesson for the students of Meyer Middle School. Through their unselfish efforts on behalf of a community half a world away, thousands of underprivileged students will be educated for years to come.

“I’m so proud of the support and grateful to the MMS students here at Meyer, says Saumer, the prospect of future programs between the two schools is very exciting.”
