The D.O.V.E. Fund 2009 Golf Outing Report

Spencer Brothers Lead Team to Victory
Sunshine and blue skies greeted the foursomes at the 9th Annual D.O.V.E. Fund Golf Outing. Held at the lovely South Toledo Golf Club and hosted by owner/operator Greg Fish, also a D.O.V.E. Fund Trustee, this event is one of several fund raisers held throughout the year. Golf Committee Chairmen, Bob Culp, organized the days activities which included a raffle, long drive and closest to the pin contests for both ladies and men.

Highlighting the post round activities was Tom Treece, playing guitar and singing those "Double Bogey Blues" from the "Tin Cup" movie. D.O.V.E. Fund chairman, Tim Kearney, thanked everyone for their participation and reminded them of our continuing efforts to aid the needy in Vietnam. Then, as the golfers dined on tasty prime rib, baked potato and chocolate cake, Greg Fish announced the raffle winners who walked off with prizes ranging from free rounds of golf to drivers, putters, umbrellas and dozens of new golf balls. The winners of this years event included three members of the prestigious Inverness Club, just down road.

Local CPA John Hills took a day off from his own firm, Spillman, Hills and Heidebrink to join Ohio golf legends, Denny and Doug Spencer, who have competed in tournaments for years all around the country. Denny, who once played on the Senior PGA tour, also wrote a novel called "Listen for the Bugles" and was kind enough to donate several copies to the D.O.V.E. Fund. Doug Spencer is a multiple club champion at Highland Meadows and is a member of the Toledo Golf Hall of Fame.

Rounding out the foursome was accomplished golfer and Inverness member, Dave Risley, who served as a lieutenant in Vietnam 40 years ago and is a big supporter of the D.O.V.E. Fund. Having won the event in 2007, this team is no stranger to the to the winners circle. We look forward to a vigorous defense of their title in next year's contest.
